Submission Wrestling

Our Submission Wrestling program offers a broad style of grappling that can be a part of MMA training, competitive grappling training, or recreational fitness training.  Training sessions are for men and women 18 years or older. We emphasize safety and technical training along with live sparring.

Submission Wrestling incorporates takedowns, throws, ground controls and positioning, counters and reversals, pressure points, joint locks on the ankles, knees, hips, neck, shoulders, elbows, and wrists, and also choke holds. The fluid style is adaptable to the goals of any style of grappler. It is also a lot of fun!

A typical training session consists of warm ups, physical attribute training, tumbling, agility drills, and mobility drills, followed by detailed technique training, then sparring drills, controlled pace sparring, or live sparring at the end.

Our coach Laren Grey Umphlett has 20 years of experience in Submission Wrestling, Catch Wrestling, and Folkstyle (Scholastic) Wrestling and has trained many people over the years for a variety of competitions, including MMA, wrestling, and grappling tournaments.  He has spent his life seeking out great grappling instructors. He is regarded as a talented coach and now focuses on his passion for coaching.

He is currently an affiliate of the International Submission Wrestling Alliance (ISWA). www.iswa.ca
